The Past

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Troop 48 was founded in 1929 for the purpose of providing young men with fun activities while teaching them to be good citizens who are strong in character and are physically fit. These four attributes are as valuable today as they were during the Great Depression.

Although originally founded in South Memphis, the troop now resides in Germantown, Tennessee. What sets this troop apart from others is that it has a strong set of ties back to its early years.  A recently deceased active assistant Scoutmaster, Mr. Edgar Provine, joined the Troop in 1950 and had been the Scoutmaster three times for a combined tenure of 16 years and 6 months. The current Scoutmaster, Mr. Brian Issing, has been a leader in the Troop since 1988. Mr. Richard Ralph has been helping for over ten years.

So you see, the longevity of the leaders, coupled w/ their tie to its history, makes for a solid link back to a time when the B.S.A. was only in its second decade.

The Future

The Patrol Leaders’ Council would like to see each of our Scouts develop the Scout and life skills that will make them successful in life.
