Remembrance
Mr. Brent Snyder, assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 48 from 2012 to 2022, passed away September 11th at the age of 65 at his home in Naples, Florida. His wife Tammy was at his side. He had recently been diagnosed with a tumor which had migrated into a lung.
Brent was active in Scouting America as a youth in Indiana and for 17 years as an adult leader in the Chickasaw Council. As an assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 48, he mentored countless young men and was fondly remembered for being the adult the older Scouts wanted to ride with on camping trips. He was especially proud of completing Wood Badge in 2009, Scouting’s advanced leadership course for adults and of being recognized with two of Scouting’s highest honors: the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow in 2015, for his outstanding service and the District Award of Merit in 2019 for his exceptional dedication to youth.
Upon joining the troop, Brent quickly became the assistant Scoutmaster for the new Scout patrol. He attended most of the monthly camping trips and ten week-long summer camps. He also taught Truck Transportation and Fishing merit badges. For the latter, he taught many a Scout how to filet and cook their fish.
Mr. Snyder was missed when he moved away in 2022 and will be missed even more by those who knew him well.
May the great Scoutmaster, master of all great Scouts, be with us until we meet again.
