Troop 48 Update - 4/20/16

Schedule Change for Next Tuesday – April 26th – Canoe Trip Gear Inspection

This night was originally scheduled as a fun swim night at Germantown Athletic Center (GAC), but it has been changed to a regular Troop meeting at the church at 7 pm to allow us to have a gear check for the May canoe trip.  If anyone still needs swim requirements, Mr. Hormberg can be available at GAC on 4/26 for that, if you let him know now. He won’t be there unless you arrange it with him in advance.

All Scouts going on the May canoe trip are required to bring their gear packed for the trip to the 4/26 Troop meeting for a gear inspection. The list of gear for an overnight canoe trip can be found our Troop website at http://www.troop48.org/n/gear_lists_for_trips.html. Be sure to use the overnight canoe trip list (the file opens on the day trip list). If you use a hammock instead of a tent, you may want to have a back-up plan as the second night of the trip will likely be camping on a sandbar and there may be no trees to hang a hammock.

The due date for the $45 payment for the May canoe trip is also changed to next Tuesday, April 26th.  Only those Scouts who are BSA Swimmer qualified (not Beginner) and who have passed the gear inspection will be able to attend the trip. Adults attending the trip must be BSA Swimmer qualified, but do not need to have the gear inspection.

First Assistant Scoutmaster

Mr. Brent Snyder has been appointed First Assistant Scoutmaster, and will be able to perform many of Scoutmaster Issing’s duties. For merit badges, he can sign blue cards and assign counselors. He can perform Scoutmaster conferences for ranks up through Star.

Troop T-shirts for Skymont Summer Camp

Each Scout attending Skymont summer camp will need to wear a Troop t-shirt each day. We have some shirts in our inventory, so if you need some extra t-shirts for summer camp, please plan to purchase these at the Court of Honor on May 3rd. They will be sold on a first-come first-serve basis. The performance t-shirts are $13 each.

Awards Court of Honor -  May 3rd

All Scouts and their families are invited to our Awards Court of Honor on May 3rd. The last installment of Skymont summer camp fees are due on May 3rd, the amounts are $50 per Scout and $25 per Adult. Also, a $25 deposit will be due for our Summer Adventure trip in July to the Gulf Coast.

If you have uniform parts, Troop t-shirts, hiking boots or camping equipment that you are no longer using, and are willing to pass along for free, please bring them to the Court of Honor on May 3rd. We have several new Scouts who can benefit from this.

BSA Health Form Part C due April 30

All Scouts and Dads going on a Troop event that lasts more than 72 hours must complete the Part C health form and have it signed by a physician (in addition to Parts A and B). Part C would be required for Skymont summer camp in June or our July Summer Adventure trip. However, we encourage all Scouts to turn in Part C. This form is due to Mr. Richard Ralph by April 30, so make your appointments now with your physician to have the form signed. The form can be found at this link: http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/HealthandSafety/ahmr.aspx  Click on the Download next to “Are You Going to Camp?”

Summer Adventure – Adults Needed

We need more Dads and Scout Leaders to go on the Summer Adventure on July 28th-31st to the Gulf Coast. If you can attend, please let Bo Hormberg know.
