Skymont Summer Camp – Merit Badge Course Selection on Tuesday
For those with sons attending summer camp, Tuesday the 26th will be the night to select the camp programs and merit badges your son would like to take. At the Court of Honor, you and your son were given a packet with the programs and merit badges available (see attached file with these two pages). Please review this information with him, for the purpose of selecting items, and make sure that he comes with his selections. The packet also has the additional fees where applicable.
It is strongly encouraged that each Scout have at least one free hour between 9 a.m. and noon and 2 and 5 p.m. First year campers should make that hour either 10 or 11 a.m. If you have a question, please call Scoutmaster Issing at 853-1713.

BSA Swim Check – Be Prepared
All Scouts and Dads need to pass the BSA Swim Check annually and qualify as a “BSA Swimmer” to participate in water activities with the Troop, such as canoeing, swimming or water sports. Our Swim Check will be held on Tuesday night, April 30th instead of our regular Troop meeting at the Germantown Athletic Club. If you haven’t been swimming in a while, it would be good to get some practice in now. Scouts who have not earned Second Class can complete requirements 5b and 5c. The requirements are listed below (you must use one of the strokes listed properly and have a strong stroke to pass as a Swimmer):
SWIMMER:
Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.
BEGINNER (Second Class requirement 5b):
Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.
Second Class requirement 5c:
Demonstrate water rescue methods by reaching with your arm or leg, by reaching with a suitable object, and by throwing lines and objects.
