Fees Due Next Tuesday for March Campout and Skymont 2nd Payment

Our next campout will be March 22-24 at Pinecrest and the focus will be on Scout Skills to prepare for Camporee. The sign-up and $25 fee is due this Tuesday, March 5 (a week earlier than usual due to spring break). Also due Tuesday is the 2^nd payment for Skymont summer camp - $75 for Scouts and $30 for adults. Scout Bucks may be used if you have an available balance. Remember if you sign up for the campout after March 5, you will need to follow the late sign-up procedure found on our troop website here:  https://www.troop48.org/f/docs/Proedures.html

 

Thanks for Making our Spaghetti Supper a Success!

Our spaghetti supper was a great success with a profit for the Troop of over $3,000!  Thanks to everyone who helped. A HUGE thank you goes to Mrs. Kelley Lee who led the event - she did a tremendous amount of work and a superb job!

 

Troop Meeting during Spring Break

Please note that the Troop will meet on the Tuesday of the school spring break, so please plan to attend unless you will be out of town.

Health Forms due April 23

Parts A, B, and C should be completed annually for all Scouts and adults attending campouts and are due to Mr. Richard Ralph by April 23. Part C requires a doctor’s signature, so make your appointments now. Here is the link to the forms: Health Form Link

• Please TURN IN (2) COPIES of the forms to Mr. Ralph and also keep a copy for your home records. This allows Mr. Ralph to send copies in advance to the Camp Nurse and still have a copy in his possession for quick reference.
• Provide a copy of your insurance card with the form – both front and back
• Provide the immunization record on Part B (Separate printout is also acceptable)
• Be sure that the Scout and Parent sign the forms (on Parts A and B)
• Do not leave any lines blank (You must designate at least one adult to transport your Scout on Part A)
• Do not email the health forms
• Any changes in medications taken from what is reported on the health form should be communicated to Mr. Ralph so he has the most up-to-date information at all times.

 

BSA Swim Check – Be Prepared

All Scouts and Dads need to pass the BSA Swim Check annually and qualify as a “BSA Swimmer” to participate in water activities with the Troop, such as canoeing, swimming or water sports. Our Swim Check will be held on Tuesday night, April 30^th instead of our regular Troop meeting at the Germantown Athletic Club. If you haven’t been swimming in a while, it would be good to get some practice in now. Scouts who have not earned Second Class can complete requirements 5b and 5c. The requirements are listed below (you must use one of the strokes listed properly and have a strong stroke to pass as a Swimmer):

SWIMMER:

Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.

BEGINNER (Second Class requirement 5b):

Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.

Second Class requirement 5c:

Demonstrate water rescue methods by reaching with your arm or leg, by reaching with a suitable object, and by throwing lines and objects.

• May Climbing Campout – changed from May 17-19 to May 10-12
• May Campout Fee Due Date – changed from May 7 to April 23
