Scouts Driving on Trips
Please see the attached letter from John Campbell, our Chartered Organization Representative. Scouts are not permitted to drive themselves to campout trips.
Used Uniform Parts and Troop T-Shirts Available on March 30
We have received several donations of used Troop 48 t-shirts, Class C t-shirts (Scout related) and other uniform parts. We will have these out at the March 30 in-person meeting, so please plan to stop by and pick something up for free. Scouts who will be attending summer camp will need to wear a Troop 48 t-shirt, BSA shorts or pants and BSA socks each day of camp, so this is a perfect opportunity to get these items stocked for camp at no cost.
In-Person Outdoor Troop Meeting on March 30
Please plan to attend an in-person troop meeting on Tuesday March 30 at Faith Presbyterian Church. Masks are required. The meeting will be held outdoors, but the indoor restrooms will be available. No one should enter the church building unless they have permission. We need an adult volunteer to supervise a quick cleaning of the restrooms after the meeting. Cleaning materials and instructions will be provided. We also would like to have an adult volunteer to coordinate getting volunteers to supervise the cleaning for future outdoor meetings. If you can help with either supervising on March 30 or coordinating future adult volunteers, please let Kim Ridenhour know.
Annual Health and Medical Record – due April 20
The Annual Health and Medical Record form can be found online at https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/ahmr/. Parts A, B, and C should be completed annually for all Scouts, dads, and leaders attending campouts and are due to Mr. Richard Ralph by April 20. Part C requires a doctor’s signature, so make your appointments now.
· Do not leave any lines blank (You must designate at least one adult to transport your Scout on Part A)
· Do not email the health forms
· Any changes in medications taken from what is reported on the health form should be communicated to Mr. Ralph so he has the most up-to-date information at all times.
Swim Check on April 13
Our swim check will be on Tuesday, April 13 at 7:30 PM at the Germantown Athletic Club. Start practicing swimming now to prepare if it has been a while since you have been in the pool. There will be no regular troop meeting on WebEx on April 13. We will be spreading out arrival times and practicing social distancing. All Scouts and Dads need to pass the BSA Swim Check annually and qualify as a “BSA Swimmer” to participate in water activities with the Troop, such as canoeing, swimming or water sports. Scouts who have not earned Second Class can complete requirements 5b and 5c. The requirements are listed below (you must use one of the strokes listed properly and have a strong stroke to pass as a Swimmer):
SWIMMER:
Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.
BEGINNER (Second Class requirement 5b):
Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.
Second Class requirement 5c:
Demonstrate water rescue methods by reaching with your arm or leg, by reaching with a suitable object, and by throwing lines and objects.
All Troop 48 in-person activities are cancelled until the church informs us that we can return.
