Scout Skills Practice Tomorrow – Saturday, March 26 – 9am – Noon
Our last Scout skills practice before the Chickasaw Challenge will be tomorrow on March 26 at the Ralph Moak garage. All Scouts should plan to be at the practice or let their patrol leader know if they won’t be there. Wear comfortable clothing (no uniforms). Bring your Scout Handbook and you may want to bring a water bottle.
Face Mask Policy
The troop Committee has decided that face masks at troop activities will now be optional. However, if Scouts are traveling as passengers in a car, the driver of the car has the option to require Scouts to wear masks while riding in his vehicle. So Scouts should be prepared on campouts to have a mask to wear if needed. Of course, anyone with symptoms or feeling sick should stay home.
Germantown Athletic Club Members
Our swim check will be held at the Germantown Athletic Club on April 26. The troop pays a $5 fee per person for non-members. If you are a member of GAC and have any free passes you will not use, would you consider donating these to the troop for April 26? Please let Scoutmaster Brian Issing know if you have passes to donate.

Swim Check on April 26
Our swim check will be on Tuesday, April 26 at 7:30 PM at the Germantown Athletic Club. Start practicing swimming now to prepare if it has been a while since you have been in the pool. There will be no regular troop meeting on April 26. All Scouts and Dads need to pass the BSA Swim Check annually and qualify as a “BSA Swimmer” to participate in water activities with the Troop, such as canoeing, swimming or water sports. Scouts who have not earned Second Class can complete requirements 5b and 5c. The requirements are listed below (you must use one of the strokes listed properly and have a strong stroke to pass as a Swimmer):
SWIMMER:
Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.
BEGINNER (Second Class requirement 5b):
Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.
Second Class requirement 5c:
Demonstrate water rescue methods by reaching with your arm or leg, by reaching with a suitable object, and by throwing lines and objects.
Just a reminder – Scouts need to bring their BSA Handbook to all Troop meetings
