Skymont Summer Camp – June 12-19 – Promotion Meeting on Tuesday, February 2

Parents, please plan to attend the troop meeting on Tuesday, February 2 at 7 PM to hear more information about Skymont summer camp and to sign-up. The first Skymont deposit is due February 2 and is $75 for Scouts and $30 for Adults. Please make PayPal or Plastiq payments prior to Feb 2, or pay with Scout Bucks if you have enough. The total cost for Skymont this year will be $150 for Scouts and $75 for Adults. These costs are being subsidized by the Troop by $155 per Scout and $85 per Adult, so we encourage everyone to consider attending summer camp to take advantage of this great deal and make some progress on earning merit badges. Please note that any adults attending Skymont need to be registered with Scouts BSA. Parents and adults attending will need to provide or arrange transportation to and from Skymont. Here is the information from Skymont on their COVID-19 Precautions:

Our plan has been developed by the Council Risk Management Committee and Council Leadership with the most current guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American Camp Association,

Boy Scouts of America, and the State of Tennessee. One note to share is that we have had over 1500 scouts and families participate in face to face events since April of 2020 and have had no reported cases as a result of

the events. Here is a brief list of some of the measures that have been addressed or that may be required:

• Pre event and on-site screening

• Staff remaining on-site with daily health checks

• Added PPE supplies including masks, sanitizer and gloves where needed

• Enhanced cleaning for dining hall, common areas, program areas and shower houses

• Additional handwashing/sanitizing stations in every program area

• Revised dining hall procedures

• Revised daily flags and campfire programs

• Limiting visitors to those necessary to operate camp

• Constant monitoring of the local area and national information to safely operate camp

• Procedures in place to address situations that require quarantine or medical treatment

Troop Calendar Updates

Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to update our troop calendar on the troop website yet, so please do not rely on those dates. Attached is an updated version of the 2021 Troop calendar, please refer to this.

Here are some changes to note:

· For the April campout, we will not be attending Camporee, but will go on April 10-11 to Chewalla Lake State Park, which will include a fishing activity.

· The Saturday Scout skills practice sessions are canceled on February 6 and March 6. On March 6, the troop will instead have a bike ride on the Big River Crossing, more information to come on that.

· The March campout will remain at Moore Woods, but the PLC will select a new theme.

 

All Troop 48 in-person activities are cancelled until the church informs us that we can return.

Feb 20-21 – Backpacking 101 at the Jordan Ranch, 9 AM drop off, 2 PM pickup
