Troop 48 Update - 3/29/21

Tuesday Troop Meeting on March 30 Changed Back to WebEx for Rainy Weather

Since the weather forecast is predicting rain for this Tuesday night, the March 30 troop meeting will not be in person, but will be on WebEx. We are planning to hold troop meetings in April in person at the church, weather permitting. A decision on the weather will be made 24 hours prior if the meeting needs to change to WebEx. The used uniform parts and t-shirts will be available at the April 6 in-person troop meeting, weather permitting. We still need adult volunteers to supervise the restroom cleaning at the April troop meetings. If we don’t have a volunteer, restrooms won’t be available. If you can volunteer for one or more of the April troop meetings, please let Kim Ridenhour know.

Calendar Changes for April Campout

As previously announced, the camping trip to Moore Woods will now be on April 17-18. The sign-up deadline is April 6. Any money paid for the March campout can be used for the April campout, but you do need to sign-up again on April 6. There will be no campout on April 10-11.

Are You Missing a Camp Chair?

Left behind on the January trip was a camp chair. An announcement about it on the backpacking trip did not uncover the owner. If you, or your son is missing a chair, and can describe it, it will be returned on the next trip. Please contact the Scoutmaster by calling his landline as listed on the troop roster.

Annual Health and Medical Record – due April 20

The Annual Health and Medical Record form can be found online at https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/ahmr/. Parts A, B, and C should be completed annually for all Scouts, dads, and leaders attending campouts and are due to Mr. Richard Ralph by April 20. Part C requires a doctor’s signature, so make your appointments now.

  • Please TURN IN (2) COPIES of the forms to Mr. Ralph and also keep a copy for your home records. This allows Mr. Ralph to send copies in advance to the Camp Nurse and still have a copy in his possession for quick reference. Please mail forms to Mr. Richard Ralph, 4341 Winding Hollow Way, Memphis, TN 38125
  • Provide a copy of your insurance card with the form – both front and back
  • Provide the immunization record on Part B (Separate printout is also acceptable)
  • Be sure that the Scout and Parent sign the forms (on Parts A and B)

· Do not leave any lines blank (You must designate at least one adult to transport your Scout on Part A)

· Do not email the health forms

· Any changes in medications taken from what is reported on the health form should be communicated to Mr. Ralph so he has the most up-to-date information at all times.

Swim Check on April 13

Our swim check will be on Tuesday, April 13 at 7:30 PM at the Germantown Athletic Club. Start practicing swimming now to prepare if it has been a while since you have been in the pool. There will be no regular troop meeting on WebEx on April 13. We will be spreading out arrival times and practicing social distancing. All Scouts and Dads need to pass the BSA Swim Check annually and qualify as a “BSA Swimmer” to participate in water activities with the Troop, such as canoeing, swimming or water sports. Scouts who have not earned Second Class can complete requirements 5b and 5c. The requirements are listed below (you must use one of the strokes listed properly and have a strong stroke to pass as a Swimmer):

SWIMMER:

Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.

BEGINNER (Second Class requirement 5b):

Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.

Second Class requirement 5c:

Demonstrate water rescue methods by reaching with your arm or leg, by reaching with a suitable object, and by throwing lines and objects.

All Troop 48 in-person activities are cancelled until the church informs us that we can return.
