Troop 48 Update - 4/8/21

Adult Volunteers Needed

The in-person troop meetings are scheduled to be 1 hour for the month of April (Tuesdays from 7PM to 8PM). If we can get two adult volunteers for the restroom cleaning for each meeting in the month of May, we can extend the May meetings to 90 minutes. However, we need to have volunteers for May signed up no later than April 14 to be able to plan those meetings appropriately.  If no one uses the restroom, then no cleaning is needed. Cleaning materials and instructions will be provided. Below is a link where you can sign up to volunteer for a certain week.

Swim Check on April 13  (No Troop meeting on Tuesday, 4/13, either WebEx or In-Person)

All Scouts and Dads need to pass the BSA Swim Check annually and qualify as a “BSA Swimmer” to participate in water activities with the Troop, such as canoeing, swimming or water sports. Our Swim Check will be held on Tuesday night, April 13 at the Germantown Athletic Club instead of our regular Troop meeting. The schedule for what time to arrive will be:

7:30 – Phoenix Patrol & SPL, ASPL, JASM

7:45 – Battering Rams Patrol

8:00 – Flying Falcons Patrol

Adults – any time before 8:00 pm, those assisting with sign-offs should come at 7:30 pm

Each person swimming needs to complete the attached Guest Waiver form and bring it with them on April 13. If you are a member of Germantown Athletic Club, please bring your membership pass and you won’t need the waiver form. When you enter the Club, please check in with Mrs. Kim Ridenhour and turn in your waiver form before heading down to the pool.

Scouts who have not earned Second Class can complete requirements 5b and 5c. The requirements are listed below (you must use one of the strokes listed properly and have a strong stroke to pass as a Swimmer):

SWIMMER:

Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.

BEGINNER (Second Class requirement 5b):

Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.

Second Class requirement 5c:

Demonstrate water rescue methods by reaching with your arm or leg, by reaching with a suitable object, and by throwing lines and objects.

COVID-19 Vaccine Information

We would like to collect information on how many of our Scout leaders and Scouts age 16 or older have had the COVID-19 vaccination. We are hoping that this information will help the church make their decision to allow us to meet indoors. If you are willing to share this information, please email Kim Ridenhour that you are either “fully vaccinated” or “partially vaccinated and expect to be fully vaccinated by (date)”.  This is completely optional.

Annual Health and Medical Record – due April 20

The Annual Health and Medical Record form can be found online at https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/ahmr/. Parts A, B, and C should be completed annually for all Scouts, dads, and leaders attending campouts and are due to Mr. Richard Ralph by April 20. Part C requires a doctor’s signature, so make your appointments now.

  • Please TURN IN (2) COPIES of the forms to Mr. Ralph and also keep a copy for your home records. This allows Mr. Ralph to send copies in advance to the Camp Nurse and still have a copy in his possession for quick reference. Please mail forms to Mr. Richard Ralph, 4341 Winding Hollow Way, Memphis, TN 38125
  • Provide a copy of your insurance card with the form – both front and back
  • Provide the immunization record on Part B (Separate printout is also acceptable)
  • Be sure that the Scout and Parent sign the forms (on Parts A and B)

· Do not leave any lines blank (You must designate at least one adult to transport your Scout on Part A)

· Do not email the health forms

· Any changes in medications taken from what is reported on the health form should be communicated to Mr. Ralph so he has the most up-to-date information at all times.
