Troop 48 Update - 4/21/2023

REMINDER - There will be NO regular Troop meeting at the church on Tuesday, April 25, due to the Swim Check at Germantown Athletic Club.

 

Swim Check on April 25

Our swim check will be on Tuesday, April 25 at 7:00 PM at the Germantown Athletic Club. Please bring the attached waiver form completed and signed for each person taking the swim check (Scouts and Adults) (unless you are a member of GAC). There will be no regular troop meeting on April 25. All Scouts and Dads need to pass the BSA Swim Check annually and qualify as a “BSA Swimmer” to participate in water activities with the Troop, such as canoeing, swimming or water sports. Scouts who have not earned Second Class can complete requirements 5b and 5c, and Scouts who have not earned First Class can complete requirement 6e. The requirements are listed below (you must use one of the strokes listed properly and have a strong stroke to pass as a Swimmer):

SWIMMER:

Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.

BEGINNER (Second Class requirement 5b):

Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.

Second Class requirement 5c:

Demonstrate water rescue methods by reaching with your arm or leg, by reaching with a suitable object, and by throwing lines and objects.

First Class requirement 6e:

With a helper and a practice victim, show a line rescue both as tender and as rescuer. (The practice victim should be approximately 30 feet from shore in deep water.)

 

Troop T-Shirt Orders Due May 2

Attached is an order form for Troop t-shirts, the prices and choices are shown on the form. All Scouts must have a Troop t-shirt for campouts and enough t-shirts to wear each day for Skymont summer camp in June. Orders and money for t-shirts are due by Tuesday May 2. We will not be able to accept orders after May 2. Please consider now if you will need a larger size later this year or if you would like a long-sleeve t-shirt for the fall/winter, as we will not be ordering again until next year. Also, we have a collection of used t-shirts in the closet in the Scout room that are free, so please take a look and see if you can use any of those.

 

Skymont Merit Badge and Adult Fees due May 2

All remaining payments for Skymont summer camp are due by May 2. Attached is a list of Merit Badge fees owed for each Scout that are due by May 2. Adults need to pay the final installment of $15 for a total of $75 by May 2. Scouts should have already paid the $150 campout fee.
