November Campout Fee due Tuesday 11/3

The $25 fee for the November 13-15 campout is due at the next Troop meeting. Please make every effort to sign up by the due date. If you would like to sign up after the due date, there is a process to be followed that can be found on our Troop 48 website at this link: http://www.troop48.org/f/docs/RulesandProcedures.html

On November 13th, the Troop will be meeting at 6:00 pm for a trip to Reelfoot Lake in the Northwest corner of TN.  http://tnstateparks.com/parks/about/reelfoot-lake

Reelfoot Lake was formed in 1812 when a series of earthquakes caused the Mississippi River to flood the area.  It is a beautiful area with lots of wildlife.  This will be an unstructured weekend, an excellent time to relax and enjoy time outdoors. We will be camping by the lake so fishing is one of the options for the weekend. Anyone who is 16 or over must have a fishing license with a Reelfoot Lake permit.

It is also an excellent time to work on advancement.  Instruction time will be provided for Scouts who want to earn their Totin' Chip requirement also known as Second Class requirement #3c. After completing this they may work on requirements 3d and 3e independently.

3c.

Demonstrate proper care, sharpening, and use of the knife, saw, and ax, and describe when they should be used.

3d.

Use the tools listed in requirement 3c to prepare tinder, kindling, and fuel for a cooking fire.

3e.

Explain when it is appropriate to use a cooking fire. At an approved outdoor location and at an approved time, and using the tinder, kindling, and fuel wood from requirement 3d, demonstrate how to build a fire; light the fire, unless prohibited by local fire restrictions. After allowing the flames to burn safely for at least two minutes, safely extinguish the flames with minimal impact to the fire site.
