T-Shirt Orders due March 26
Attached is an order form for Troop t-shirts, the prices and choices are shown on the form. All Scouts must have a Troop t-shirt for Camporee in April and enough t-shirts to wear each day for Skymont summer camp in June or the Summer Adventure in July. Orders and money for t-shirts are due to Mrs. Teri Gulati by Tuesday March 26. We will not be able to accept orders after March 26. You can email your order to Mrs. Gulati at hgulati@aol.com by 3/26 if you can’t be at the Troop meeting. Please consider now if you will need a larger size soon or if you would like a long-sleeve t-shirt for the fall/winter, as we will not be ordering again for several months.
We have a full box of recycled Troop 48 T-shirts available at no cost. It would be best if your son had a clean shirt for each day of summer camp and the Summer Adventure so come look through the box at a Troop meeting. The alternative is to pack a small bottle of liquid clothes detergent so that he can hand wash his shirts in the campsite at summer camp. (The Scoutmaster will show him how.)
Spaghetti Sauce for Sale
We have 8 containers of sauce that was frozen from our Spaghetti Supper. We are now selling those for $12 each on a first come/first serve basis. Please email kim.ridenhour@mercer.com to claim a container(s) to purchase. All sauce must be picked up and paid for next Tuesday at the Troop meeting on 3/19, or it will be sold to someone else.

Need Scout Volunteers for Color Guard on March 28
Troop 48 has been asked to provide the color guard and lead the opening flag ceremony for the Chickasaw Council Recognition Banquet. This is one of the top three events the council puts on each year and it includes the Parade of Eagle Scouts of the Class of 2018. We are looking for up to five Scouts to participate on Thursday March 28th at Memphis University School. The Scouts will need to be present from about 6 to 6:45 p.m. (Parents or drivers as well.) And of course, this is a 'field uniform' activity. Participation will fulfill requirement #8a for 2nd Class of: Participate in a flag ceremony for your school, religious institution, chartered organization, community, or Scouting activity. In order to participate, the Scout must be at least the rank of Scout. For any Scouts interested, please inform Mr. Issing within the week.
Health Forms due April 23
Parts A, B, and C should be completed annually for all Scouts and adults attending campouts and are due to Mr. Richard Ralph by April 23. Part C requires a doctor’s signature, so make your appointments now. New Scouts and new adults need to turn in Parts A and B and a copy of the insurance card to Mr. Ralph before attending a campout. Here is the link to the forms: Health Form Link
BSA Swim Check – Be Prepared
All Scouts and Dads need to pass the BSA Swim Check annually and qualify as a “BSA Swimmer” to participate in water activities with the Troop, such as canoeing, swimming or water sports. Our Swim Check will be held on Tuesday night, April 30th instead of our regular Troop meeting at the Germantown Athletic Club. If you haven’t been swimming in a while, it would be good to get some practice in now. Scouts who have not earned Second Class can complete requirements 5b and 5c. The requirements are listed below (you must use one of the strokes listed properly and have a strong stroke to pass as a Swimmer):
SWIMMER:
Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.
BEGINNER (Second Class requirement 5b):
Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.
Second Class requirement 5c:
Demonstrate water rescue methods by reaching with your arm or leg, by reaching with a suitable object, and by throwing lines and objects.
