April Camporee Campout Fee due Tuesday

Our next campout will be Camporee at Camp Currier on April 13-15. The cost is $25 per person, and is due this Tuesday, April 3. Please sign up and pay the campout fee to our Scribe, Chancellor Reynolds. Scoutbucks may be used if you have an available balance. Please sign up by the deadline so we can plan accordingly for transportation and meals. If you sign up after the deadline, the Scout must follow the procedures on our website at https://www.troop48.org/f/docs/RulesandProcedures.html. If you will only be attending part of the campout, please let Mr. Hormberg know.

BSA Swim Check at Germantown Athletic Club – April 17

All Scouts and Dads need to pass the BSA Swim Check annually and qualify as a “BSA Swimmer” to participate in water activities with the Troop, such as canoeing, swimming or water sports. Our May campout is canoeing, so you must be a BSA Swimmer to go on that trip.  Our Swim Check will be held on Tuesday night, April 17th  at 7:00 PM at Germantown Athletic Club (GAC), 1801 Exeter Road, Germantown, instead of our regular Troop meeting. If you haven’t been swimming in a while, it would be good to get some practice in now. Scouts who have not earned Second Class can complete requirements 5b and 5c.  Each person swimming needs to complete the attached waiver form and bring it on April 17 (unless you are a member of GAC). The Troop will be paying the cost of $5 per person, however if you are a member of GAC, please use your membership card.

New BSA Requirements for Adults attending Trips 72 hours or more

Effective June 1, 2018, adults accompanying a Scouting unit who are present at the activity for 72 total hours (3 days) or more must be registered as a leader, including completion of a criminal background check and Youth Protection Training. The 72 hours need not be consecutive. So for our Troop this year, any adults who plan to attend Skymont Summer Camp need to be registered by then. To register, you must complete an adult application, pay an annual registration fee of $33 (pro-rated for a partial year), agree to the Church’s leadership policy, complete on-line Youth Protection Training and pass the background check. Please contact Kim Ridenhour for details if you would like to become a BSA registered adult.

  • Parts A and B of the Health form are past due – please turn these in to Mr. Ralph as soon as possible if you have not already
  • Part C of the Health form requires a physical and must be signed by a certified and licensed health-care provider, so make your doctor appointments now
