Skymont 2nd Deposit due this Tuesday, March 7 and Merit Badge Class Selection
The 2nd deposit of $75 for Scouts and $30 for Adults for Skymont summer camp is due this Tuesday, March 7. Also, Scouts will need to select the merit badge classes they will be taking at Skymont during the Troop meeting on March 7, so please review the materials handed out last Tuesday (or see Skymont.org). If you cannot attend the Troop meeting, please email your merit badge class selections to Mrs. Vietzke and Mr. Issing prior to March 7. The classes fill up quickly, so you may not get your choice, especially if you don’t select classes by March 7. Note that several of the classes have a fee, and these merit badge fees for the classes you are enrolled in will need to be paid with the final deposits due on May 2.
Troop T-shirts
All Scouts will need to wear their red Troop t-shirt for the campout in April for Camporee (April 7-9). We have some used t-shirts available and we have new t-shirts in stock, so please let Mrs. Ridenhour know if you need a t-shirt for Camporee. New t-shirts are $13 each. Scouts attending Skymont summer camp will need enough Troop t-shirts to wear each day of camp. We will be taking orders for t-shirts in April if you need to order t-shirts for Skymont. If you have Troop t-shirts that you can no longer wear, please donate them back to the Troop so younger Scouts can use them.
Reminder – One Free Campout for Dads and Adults
Just a reminder that Dads and Adults can have one free campout fee each year (worth $25), so be sure to use your free campout. It is fun to see the Scouts competing with other Troops at the Camporee on April 7-9 at nearby Camp Currier, so if you haven’t been camping with the Troop in a while, consider using your free campout fee for April.
Conservation Service Project – March 11
On Saturday, March 11 we will be having a service project at Pinecrest Camp & Retreat Center in La Grange, TN. We will have an opportunity for Scouts to earn at least three conservation related service hours and work-in-trade for our camping fees at Pinecrest. We will leave around 8:30 am and return around 1:00 pm. Specific details to follow for those attending. All Scouts are encouraged to attend. Please let Mr. Hormberg know if you plan to attend. Service hours are now required for all ranks above Scout and three hours of conservation service hours are required for the Life rank.
Camporee Practice, March 25 – 9:00 – 12:00
All Scouts need to plan to attend Camporee practice on Saturday, March 25 from 9:00 to 12:00. Wear clothing appropriate for the weather and bring a water bottle (no uniforms). Meet at the Ralph Moak garage at 9 am. Please let your Patrol Leader know if you cannot attend. There will be a practice on April 1 only if the March 25 date is canceled due to rain.
Swim Check – April 11 – Be Prepared
Each Scout and Adult participating in any water activities (swimming, canoeing, skiing, sailing, etc.) need to pass the swim check each year to qualify as a “BSA Swimmer”. Our Troop’s annual swim check will be April 11 at the Germantown Athletic Center. Please make plans to practice swimming or have some swim lessons prior to the swim check. The requirements are:
· Jump feet first into water over the head, level off, and begin swimming.
· Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: side, breast, trudgen, or crawl. Swim 25 yards using an easy, resting backstroke.
