Troop 48 Update - 3/6/20

Scout Skills Practice – Saturday, 9 am - Noon

The Troop will have a skills practice this Saturday, March 7 from 9 am to noon to prepare for Camporee. All Scouts should plan to be at the practice or let their patrol leader know if they won’t be there. Wear comfortable clothing (no uniforms). Meet at the Ralph Moak garage behind the church and bring a water bottle.

 

March Campout Fee due this Tuesday, March 10

The March campout will be at Moore Woods on March 27-29 to practice Scout skills to prepare for Camporee. The deadline to sign up and pay the $25 campout fee (per person) is this Tuesday, March 10 (a week earlier than usual due to spring break). Please sign up and pay the Scribe or our Treasurer, Mr. Frederick Lee at the beginning of the meeting. If you are using PayPal, please make your payment prior to the meeting. Scout Bucks may be used if you have an available balance. Please sign up by the deadline, but if you want to sign up after the list of those signed-up is read during circle-up, you must follow the late signup procedures found on our troop website here https://www.troop48.org/f/docs/RulesandProcedures.html.

 

First Aid Training

We are offering first aid training on two dates below (you would only attend one of these) at the church in our Scout Room 111. The training will include first aid, American Heart Association Heartsaver (CPR) and AED training. Our instructor will be Angelo Lamar who is a trainer for the Memphis Fire Department and he is offering the training at no cost. Note this will be a training and not a certification. This is open to our Scouts, Leaders, parents/adults and our Cub Scout Pack Leaders and church employees. If you would like to sign up, please contact Kim Ridenhour with your choice of the two dates (kim.ridenhour@mercer.com). The class size will be limited, so please sign up soon if you are interested, but no later than March 10th. Thanks to Rodney Donald for getting us connected to his friend Angelo Lamar!

Troop 48 T-Shirt Orders due March 24 (extended due date from 3/10)

Attached is an order form for Troop t-shirts, the prices and choices are shown on the form. All Scouts must have a Troop t-shirt for Camporee in April and enough t-shirts to wear each day for Skymont summer camp in June or the Summer Adventure in July. Orders and money for t-shirts are due to Mrs. Teri Gulati by Tuesday March 24. We will not be able to accept orders after March 24. You can email your order to Mrs. Gulati at hgulati@aol.com by 3/24 if you can’t be at the Troop meeting. Please consider now if you will need a larger size soon or if you would like a long-sleeve t-shirt for the fall/winter, as we will not be ordering again for several months.

 

Summer Adventure in July – St. Louis

Our Summer Adventure will be a fun trip to St. Louis July 23-26 (Thursday-Sunday) including the City Museum, The Gateway Arch and the St. Louis Science Center. The cost per person will be $75, and the troop is subsidizing part of the cost. The first deposit of $25 will be due April 7, and the $50 balance will be due by May 5^th.  Thanks to Yvonne Gamblin for planning this trip!

 

New Form for Annual Health and Medical Record for 2020

There is a new version of the Annual Health and Medical Record for 2020. Please use this form going forward. It can be found online at https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/ahmr/. Parts A, B, and C should be completed annually for all Scouts and adults attending campouts and are due to Mr. Richard Ralph by April 28. Part C requires a doctor’s signature, so make your appointments now.

• Please TURN IN (2) COPIES of the forms to Mr. Ralph and also keep a copy for your home records. This allows Mr. Ralph to send copies in advance to the Camp Nurse and still have a copy in his possession for quick reference.
• Provide a copy of your insurance card with the form – both front and back
• Provide the immunization record on Part B (Separate printout is also acceptable)
• Be sure that the Scout and Parent sign the forms (on Parts A and B)

· Do not leave any lines blank (You must designate at least one adult to transport your Scout on Part A)

· Do not email the health forms

· Any changes in medications taken from what is reported on the health form should be communicated to Mr. Ralph so he has the most up-to-date information at all times.
