Scout Skills Practice – Saturday, 9 am - Noon

The Troop will have a skills practice this Saturday, April 6 from 9 am to noon to prepare for Camporee. All Scouts should plan to be at the practice or let their patrol leader know if they won’t be there. Wear comfortable clothing (no uniforms). Meet at the Ralph Moak garage behind the church and bring a water bottle.

COPE Form Required for Camporee

All Scouts attending the April campout on April 26-28 need to have a parent or guardian sign the attached Camp Currier COPE form. Please turn in signed forms to Assistant Scoutmaster Bo Hormberg by April 16.

CPR Training Opportunity

On May 2, there is going to be a CPR course presented at St. George’s Church from 7 to about 9 pm. It is designed for Scouts only. Interested Scouts should see Scoutmaster Issing.

Posted on our Web site are some new items:

1. Photos from the last two trips and the Eastern District Recognition banquet. All posted under Photos.

2. A narrative of the past few trip posted under Scoutmaster's Blog.

Health Forms due April 23

Parts A, B, and C should be completed annually for all Scouts and adults attending campouts and are due to Mr. Richard Ralph by April 23. Part C requires a doctor’s signature, so make your appointments now. New Scouts and new adults need to turn in Parts A and B and a copy of the insurance card to Mr. Ralph before attending a campout. Here is the link to the forms: Health Form Link

  • Please TURN IN (2) COPIES of the forms to Mr. Ralph and also keep a copy for your home records. This allows Mr. Ralph to send copies in advance to the Camp Nurse and still have a copy in his possession for quick reference.
  • Provide a copy of your insurance card with the form – both front and back
  • Provide the immunization record on Part B (Separate printout is also acceptable)
  • Be sure that the Scout and Parent sign the forms (on Parts A and B)
  • Do not leave any lines blank (You must designate at least one adult to transport your Scout on Part A)
  • Do not email the health forms
  • Any changes in medications taken from what is reported on the health form should be communicated to Mr. Ralph so he has the most up-to-date information at all times.

BSA Swim Check – Be Prepared

All Scouts and Dads need to pass the BSA Swim Check annually and qualify as a “BSA Swimmer” to participate in water activities with the Troop, such as canoeing, swimming or water sports. Our Swim Check will be held on Tuesday night, April 30th instead of our regular Troop meeting at the Germantown Athletic Club. If you haven’t been swimming in a while, it would be good to get some practice in now. The schedule for what time to arrive will be:

7:30 – Platinum Sharks patrol

7:45 – Phoenix patrol

8:00 – Plasma Dragons patrol

8:15 – Cobalt Foxes patrol

Adults – any time before 8:00 pm

Each person swimming needs to complete the attached Guest Waiver form and bring it with them on April 30th. If you are a member of Germantown Athletic Club, please bring your membership pass.

Scouts who have not earned Second Class can complete requirements 5b and 5c. The requirements are listed below (you must use one of the strokes listed properly and have a strong stroke to pass as a Swimmer):

SWIMMER:

Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.

BEGINNER (Second Class requirement 5b):

Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.

Second Class requirement 5c:

Demonstrate water rescue methods by reaching with your arm or leg, by reaching with a suitable object, and by throwing lines and objects.
