Greenery Fundraiser Volunteer

Thank you to Gina and Roger Eddleman, who have volunteered to lead our Greenery fundraiser again this year. However, we need a volunteer to take over the fundraiser next year. If you could commit to this, then you could work with Gina and Roger this year to learn the ropes. Please let Kim Ridenhour know if you are interested in volunteering for this position.

Advancement Change Announcement from the Boy Scouts of America – Cyber Chip due September 30th

Today's youth are spending more time than ever using digital media for education, research, socializing, and fun. To help families and volunteers keep youth safe while online, the Boy Scouts of America introduces the Cyber Chip. In developing this exciting new tool, the BSA teamed up with content expert NetSmartz®, part of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children® and training expert for many law enforcement agencies. Topics include cyber-bullying, cell phone use, texting, blogging, gaming, and identity theft.

This Cyber Chip is a set of requirements specific to a range of school grades: 6-8 and 9-12. Completion of these new requirements is required for advancement. In addition, there will need to be a yearly 'recharge' of the Cyber Chip by each Scout.  There are five or six requirements depending upon the school grade of the Scout. They include signing a pledge, writing and signing a contract with his parents, watching some videos, teaching these skills to another patrol, having a discussion with a parent on the potential dangers of social media and finally a discussion with his unit leader.

The Scouts were introduced to this at the August 9th troop meeting and given direction to begin working on the requirements. Completion is due by September 30th.

Netsmartz® has created a Scouting portal showcasing Cyber Chip resources, including grade-specific videos, for each level. All of the information can be found at the following link:
