Troop Service Project – RESCHEDULED to next Saturday, September 15

Due to rain predicted for the weekend, we are rescheduling this service project from September 8 to September 15. We need all Scouts to attend this service project, so please plan to be at the church from 9 am to Noon on Saturday, September 15 to help finish painting the wrought-iron fencing and stain the wood fence. Pizza will be provided for lunch. Wear old clothes for painting – the paint will not be able to be washed out. If you cannot attend, please let your patrol leader know.

Backpacking Demo – Tuesday, September 11 – Required for first-time backpackers and parents

The October 19-21 trip is backpacking in Land-Between-the-Lakes National Recreational Area in Kentucky. This is the troop's 'backpacking 101' or introduction to backpacking weekend. As a 101, we will be hiking a small number of miles in an area with gentle hills and beautiful scenery. Completing this 101 allows the Scout to tackle the 201 trip in January.

To prepare the first-timers for this trip, a demonstration on the proper gear to bring will be led by patrol leader Josef Lee. During this, he will be referencing the troop's backpacking gear list which can be found on our Web site here: https://troop48.org/f/docs/NewsArticleAttachments/BackpackingEqListforScouts.pdf In order to attend this trip, the first-timer Scout needs to participate in this demonstration and pass his gear check. A parent is strongly encouraged to attend this demonstration as well. The demo will run from 7:45 to 8:15 pm on Tuesday September 11th in the Library of Faith Presbyterian Church.

Most of the standard camping trip gear will suffice for this trip and a number of the items are available to borrow from the troop. This includes backpacks for both Scouts and dads. Please see our quartermaster, Mr. Gulati, to borrow any items.

The backpacking gear inspection, for all Scouts under the rank of 1st Class who will be attending this trip, will take place on October 2nd. Please see that your son is properly equipped per the gear list. If he has any questions, he may contact one of the uniformed leaders. Successfully completing this inspection qualifies the Scout to earn Tenderfoot requirement #1a.

Awards Court of Honor – Tuesday, September 18

All Scouts and their families should plan to attend the Awards Court of Honor on September 18 at 7 PM.  Please contact Mrs. Vietzke if you will need a Board of Review by September 11.
